A Vision for Food Systems of the Future

Food sustains life, spreads joy and brings us together. But, if we are to feed 10 billion people within planetary boundaries, the way food is produced and consumed needs to change. The COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated vulnerabilities in food systems – highlighting the insecurity of rural livelihoods, the tragedy of food loss and waste, and stark inequities in access to healthy food among the poor and vulnerable. It has also illustrated broadly the types of disruptions one can expect from the impact of climate change in years to come. With fewer than 10 years left to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the UN Food Systems Summit in 2021 presents an opportunity to bring together stakeholders to address these challenges and unlock barriers to food systems transformation.
