Germany’s far-right AfD makes gains in Thuringia state elections

A far-right party in Germany’s eastern state of Thuringia has beat Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats.

Analysts say it appears that East Germans are unhappy with the country’s growing multiculturalism and immigration policies.

But the far-left Linke party also got the most votes in Thuringia and given that the political centre seems to have been hollowed out, may find it hard to govern.
