UK lawmakers return to parliament to elect new Speaker, swear-in new MPs

Members of Britain’s Parliament return to the House of Commons for the first time since the UK election to elect the new Speaker and allow Members of Parliament to swear-in.

Boris Johnson’s Conservatives won an 80-strong majority in Parliament in last week’s general election — the most decisive Tory victory since the 1980s — as voters in formerly Labour-backing areas rallied to Johnson’s promise to “get Brexit done.”
