What the world can expect in Trump’s second term

Donald Trump is just hours away from being sworn-in as the next president of the United States. On the eve of his inauguration, he held a campaign-style rally in Washington – where he repeated his pledge to begin mass deportations of undocumented migrants as soon as he’s back in power. Shortly before the rally, he participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery honouring fallen members of the US military.

The effects of a second Trump presidency extend across the globe and very much here in Germany. His planned tariffs on European goods will impact the German economy, and his stance on NATO members’ defense spending will impact German security. As Germany prepares to go to the polls on the 23rd of February, the Trump effect is front of mind among German leaders.
