Agriculture: the Commission approves new geographical indication from Hungary

The Commission has approved today the addition of “Nagykunsági birspálinka” from Hungary in the register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). “Nagykunsági birspálinka” is a fruit spirit made from quince produced in the Nagykunság region. The tastes of the primary fruit, the quince, appear alongside lively, fresh, citrusy notes, complemented by pleasant tannins and discreet tones of stewed fruit or jam. ‘Nagykunsági birspálinka’ consists at least 50 % of distillates of Mezőtúr quince varieties, which gives scented, fragrant notes of rose. The outstanding quality of ‘Nagykunsági birspálinka’ is also attested by the numerous awards it has won in national and international contests. The new denomination will be added to the list of 251 spirits drinks already protected in the eAmbrosia database. More information online on quality products.
