Call for expressions of interest for the European Fiscal Board

In a further step of implementation of the Five Presidents’ Report, the Commission today publishes a call for expressions of interest for the selection of the members of the European Fiscal Board. The Commission decided in October last year to set up this independent advisory Board laid out in the Five Presidents’ Report. The Board’s role will be to evaluate the implementation of the EU fiscal framework; to advise the Commission on the fiscal stance appropriate for the euro area as a whole; to cooperate with Member States’ national fiscal councils and to provide ad-hoc advice on the request of Commission President Juncker. The new advisory European Fiscal Board will be independent. The Board members will not be employees of the Commission. They will provide independent expertise in their fields. It is envisaged that selection interviews for the board will be held in June with the aim of having the European Fiscal Board established and operational by September 2016. More information on the selection process and criteria is available here.
