Climate Action: Member states agree on the EU’s submission of the 2050 climate-neutrality strategy to United Nations under Paris Agreement

Yesterday, Member States adopted the EU’s submission to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on the long-term low greenhouse gas emission development strategy of the EU and its Member States. Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal Frans Timmermans said: “On Wednesday we proposed the European Climate Law which will make our 2050 climate neutrality objective legally binding. Yesterday, just one day after, the Member States agreed to submit our long-term strategy to the UNFCCC secretariat, pledging to the world that the European Union will fulfil its commitments under the Paris Agreement. As we shift gears in our efforts, we are setting an example and call upon our global partners to follow suit. Stable long-term strategies help us stay the course in the green transformation necessary to build a better future for all. With the next Climate Summit in Glasgow coming up, this is the year to raise global ambition together!”
