Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger welcomes the adoption of EU Budget 2018 by European Parliament and the Council

Commissioner in charge of Budget and Human Resources, Günther H. Oettinger, welcomed the approval of the EU budget by the Council and the positive vote by the European Parliament. Following the agreement on the EU budget reached in the early hours of 18 November 2017, the Council adopted its official position earlier today, and the Parliament supported the agreement with 295 votes in favour also on 30 November. To welcome the approval, Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger said: “I am grateful to the European Parliament and to the Member States in the Council for our fruitful cooperation on the EU budget for 2018. Next year’s budget will go to create more jobs, more growth, more investments. It will help young people find jobs and internships. It will help making Europe more secure. I look forward to our ongoing work together in making sure that every euro is spent efficiently and creates added value for Europe.” The vote in Parliament is the final stage of the budgetary cycle which starts with the proposal by the Commission in the spring of every year.
