Commissioner Hansen visits Moldova to support EU integration and strengthen ties with the agricultural sector
Today and tomorrow, 2 September 2025, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen, is visiting Moldova to reaffirm the EU’s support for the country’s European path and to deepen cooperation with Moldovan farmers and rural communities. This is the Commissioner’s first official visit to a candidate country and comes at a crucial time ahead of Moldova’s parliamentary elections on 28 September 2025.
The visit begins in Chișinău with meetings with President Maia Sandu, key government representatives, and agricultural associations. Commissioner Hansen will then travel across southern and central Moldova for a series of field visits focused on export potential, investment, and rural development. He will visit a leading fruit export company, a small-scale winery, and a dairy processing facility, and he will exchange with members of a LEADER Local Action Group.
On the second day, Commissioner Hansen will visit a major irrigation rehabilitation site in Criuleni district – an EU-supported investment project aimed at improving agricultural resilience and competitiveness. A joint press conference with national authorities in Chișinău will conclude the mission.
