Commissioner Hoekstra in the Copenhagen Climate Ministerial to prepare COP30 climate negotiations*

On 7 and 8 May, Commissioner for Climate, Net-Zero and Clean Growth, Wopke Hoekstra, is participating in the Copenhagen Climate Ministerial to advance preparations for the COP30 UN Climate Change conference taking place in November. Following his trip last month to Brazil to meet the COP30 Presidency, the Commissioner will gather with global ministers in the ministerial meeting to discuss the implementation of the COP29 outcome and set the roadmap and priorities towards COP30.
Today, Commissioner Hoekstra is attending the Ministerial event under the theme ‘Driving Momentum for 1.5 aligned Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)’, which focuses on the role of NDCs in the long-term development planning and climate finance. In the margins, he will meet with COP30 President-designate, André Corrêa do Lago and Brazil’s Secretary for Climate Change, Ana Toni; Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, Lars Aagaard; Polish Climate and Environment State Secretary, Krzysztof Bolesta; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, and Chair of the Group of 77 and China, Faud Mohammad Hussein; Tanzania’s State Minister in the Vice President’s Office for Environment and Chair of the African Group, Hamad Yusuf Masauni; and Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources of Mexico, Alicia Bárcena. In the afternoon, the Commissioner will participate in a roundtable with CEOs of the Danish industry to exchange on the Clean Industrial Deal, among other issues.
Tomorrow, Commissioner Hoekstra will hold meetings with Danish Minister for Green Transition, Jeppe Bruus, and Minister for Economic Affairs, Stephanie Lose. In the afternoon, he will visit the Topsoe facilities, an energy company, at Lyngby, including the cutting-edge solid oxide electrolyser cell. A second plant using this technology on a large scale has been the recipient of a €94 million grant under the Innovation Fund.
