Commissioner McGrath hosts dialogue on consumer protection
Tomorrow, Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath, will host an Implementation Dialogue in Brussels focused on consumer protection in the digital environment.
The dialogue will bring together representatives of business associations, consumer organisations and public consumer protection authorities from across the EU. Participants will discuss how to facilitate the effective implementation of consumer protection rules in the digital space, building on the findings of the 2024 Digital Fairness Check. The discussion will focus on key consumer legislation, such as the Directives on Unfair Commercial Practices, Unfair Contract Terms, Consumer Rights, Price Indication, Digital Content and the Sale of Goods.
Stakeholders will have the opportunity to share insights from their experiences and offer suggestions on ways to possibly streamline existing legislation and reduce implementation costs while maintaining the EU’s robust consumer protection standards. Their feedback will also feed into the forthcoming Digital Fairness Act.
Implementation dialogues underscore the Commission’s efforts to boosting European competitiveness by engaging directly with stakeholders in policy implementation. President von der Leyen asked each Commissioner to host two such dialogues annually.
