Commissioner Tzitzikostas hosts dialogues on cutting transport emissions

Today, 17 July, in Brussels, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, will host two dialogues to advance the decarbonisation of EU transport. The emphasis will be on renewable and low-carbon fuels in maritime and aviation sectors, as well as on the shift to zero-emission corporate fleets.

The first one, an implementation dialogue, will focus on sustainable fuels in maritime and aviation. It will review efforts to scale up renewable and low-carbon fuels in aviation and maritime transport, which are crucial for reducing fossil fuel use under the Commission’s 2024–2029 Political Guidelines. With ReFuelEU Aviation and FuelEU Maritime initiatives in place, participants will share feedback on their implementation, informing the upcoming Sustainable Transport Investment Plan.

The second one, a stakeholders’ dialogue, which is a focused meeting involving key participants, will explore zero-emission corporate fleets, considering how to speed up the adoption of zero-emission vehicles in corporate fleets, which make 60% of new car sales and almost all vans, buses, and trucks – offering a major lever for reducing road transport emissions. The dialogue will gather businesses representing different kinds of corporate fleets and sectors, such as leasing, rental, postal, taxi and ride-hailing, road hauliers, logistics, automotive suppliers, Original Equipment Manufacturers, and Non-Governmental Organizations.
