EU agri-food exports reach new high of €238.4 billion in 2025, latest Commission report shows
The latest EU agri-food trade report, published today by the European Commission, shows that EU agri-food exports reached a new record in 2025, despite global economic challenges.
EU agri-food exports totalled €238.4 billion in 2025, a 1% increase compared to 2024 (+ €2.3 billion). The UK remained the top destination for EU agri-food exports, accounting for 23% of the total (€55.6 billion). Among other key developments, exports grew significantly to Switzerland (+ €1.2 billion, +7%) and Türkiye (+ €1.1 billion, +16%). Cereal preparations, dairy products, and wine continued to lead EU exports, while cocoa, coffee, and chocolate saw the strongest value increases, largely due to rising prices.
EU agri-food imports rose to €188.6 billion, up 9% compared to 2024 (+ €15.3 billion). The UK, Brazil, and the US remained the top suppliers, with cocoa, coffee, and fruits and nuts driving import growth due to higher global prices.
The EU maintained an overall agri-food trade surplus of €49.9 billion in 2025. This was €13.3 billion lower than the 2024 overall surplus, primarily due to increased import prices of key commodities like coffee, cocoa, fruits and nuts. The EU remains the world’s first exporter of agri-food products and was also the top global importer in 2025.
Agri-food trade represented 9% of EU total exports, 7.5% of EU total imports, and 37% of the EU overall trade surplus in 2025.
