Financial services: Council approves programme to involve consumers in policymaking

On 11 May 2017, the Council approved a programme to promote the involvement of consumers in policymaking in financial services.

The new programme follows on from moves to restore confidence in the financial sector in the wake of the financial crisis.

The regulation was adopted at a meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council, without discussion.

The European Parliament gave its approval on 27 April 2017 to the programme, which has a €6 million budget to cover the 2017-20 period. This follows an agreement with Parliament representatives reached on 14 February 2017.
