Latest from the European Commission’s participation at the IMF/World Bank Spring meetings in Washington, including the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meetings

International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings

President Juncker, Vice-President Georgieva, Vice-President Dombrovskis, Commissioner Hahn, Commissioner Mimica and Commissioner Moscovici are representing the European Commission at the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetingsin Washington DC (USA) and at different events hosted in the framework of the spring meetings.

President Juncker will deliver a speech at a World Bank flagship event “Forced Displacement: A Global Development Challenge”. On Wednesday, Vice-President Georgieva opened the World Bank-European Commission flagship event “Focus on Results”, and she will be signing a cooperation agreement between the two institutions to facilitate the common work for development projects around the world. Vice-President Dombrovskis will attend the IMFC (International Monetary and Financial Committee) Plenary meeting and address the members of the International Finance Institute. Commissioner Mimica is due to announce a contribution of EUR 14 million of EU support to a Multi-Donor Trust Fund managed by the World Bank.

G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meetings

The G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors are also meeting today in the margins of the spring meetings, and they will discuss international financial architecture, investment and infrastructure and the financial sector reform. Commissioner Moscovici will represent the European Commission at these meetings as well as at the Fiscal Forum, where the agenda includes global fiscal developments and corporate tax avoidance. Other high-level events

In addition to their participation in key meetings, Members of the Commission present in Washington attend a variety of high-level events. For example, yesterday, President Juncker held bilateral meetings with Vice-President of the United States Joe Biden and with the President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim. Today, he will also meet with Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. Vice-President Dombrovskis will discuss the steps the European Commission is taking to strengthen the resilience of the European economy against global market turbulence at an event organised by the Atlantic Council later today. Commissioner Hahn will attend the ministerial pledging session of the International Conference for the New Financing Initiative to Support the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
