Latest on EU Health Union and response to COVID-19 pandemic

MEPs will hold debates on the EU Health Union package and on the global dimension of the EU’s response to the pandemic.

Where: European Parliament in Brussels, room József Antall 4Q2 and videoconference

Members of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee will exchange views with Commissioner Stella Kyriakides on the state of play, progress and outlook of the EU health and food safety agenda. An update on the EU’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to be a key theme, including aspects related to the EU Vaccines Strategy, the Digital Green Certificate, the COVAX global initiative, the HERA incubator and the EU4Health programme. Other issues for discussion linked to building the EU Health Union may include the Pharmaceutical Strategy, EU action on antimicrobial resistance, Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, as well as the Farm to Fork Strategy.

During the afternoon session, committee members will also discuss the international implications and global perspectives of measures under the EU Health Union package, in particular the proposal on cross-border health threats, with World Health Organisation experts. The debate will also cover other aspects of the WHO’s global response to the pandemic, including its cooperation with the EU under the framework of international health regulations.
