The Association Council reviewed the state of EU-Ukraine bilateral relations and took stock of progress in the implementation of the EU-Ukraine association agreement.

Our meeting took place against the background of an escalation around the Kerch Straight. The EU has been united and firm in saying that there is no justification for the use of military force by Russia. We will not recognise the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sebastopol by Russia and we have condemned the ongoing militarisation of the Crimean peninsula. The EU continues to be at the side of the Ukrainian people and will continue to do so.
