New Director-General in the Council’s General Secretariat

Today, the Council appointed Mr Peter Javorčík as the new Director-General for Transport, Energy, Environment and Education (DG TREE). Mr Javorčík will take up his new duties on 1 October 2020.

Mr Javorčík, a Slovak national, is currently serving as the Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the EU. He has been working in European and foreign affairs for more than 25 years.

DG TREE supports the work of three different Council configurations:

  • Environment
  • Education, youth, culture and sport
  • Transport, telecommunications and energy

Mr Javorčík will replace Jaroslaw Pietras, Director-General of DG TREE since 2008, who will be retiring.

The decision to appoint Mr Javorčík was adopted by written procedure.
