Committee and political group meetings
EU-US trade relations. International Trade Committee Chair Bernd Lange will hold a press conference on “EU-US Trade: what’s next? Implementing the political framework agreement and Parliament’s involvement”, on Wednesday at 9.30. Later in the day, the committee will discuss the same issue with Sabine Weyand, Director-General of DG Trade at the European Commission.
Eurobarometer survey. Parliament is publishing its latest 2025 Eurobarometer, which puts a spotlight on EU citizens’ priorities for the future and their expectations of the EU. The survey covers a range of issues, including the role of the EU in the current global context, the EU’s long-term budget, citizens’ key priorities and values, and how they view the European Parliament, the EU and EU membership (Wednesday at 07:00).
Media briefing on the new Eurobarometer. On Tuesday at 10.00, Parliament’s press service will present the survey’s main findings at an under-embargo briefing for accredited journalists.
Danish Presidency priorities. MEPs from the Environment, Climate and Food Safety Committee will discuss the priorities of the Danish Presidency of the Council in their field of responsibility with Denmark’s Environment Minister, Magnus Heunicke, and Green Transition Minister, Jeppe Bruus Christensen (Thursday).
State of the Union. Parliament’s Conference of Presidents (the President and political group leaders) will meet with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to prepare the State of the Union debate scheduled for Wednesday 10 September in Strasbourg (Wednesday).
Plenary preparations. The political groups are preparing for the 8 – 11 September plenary session in Strasbourg. One of the session’s highlights will be Commission President von der Leyen’s 2025 State of the Union speech, to be followed by a debate with MEPs. Members will also be voting on their proposals for package holidays and end-of-life of vehicles, and to adopt new legislation on textiles, and food waste and the carbon border adjustment mechanism. They will debate and vote on Ukraine’s EU accession preparations, the future of EU agriculture, cohesion policy simplification and single market reform. MEPs will also hear from Moldova’s President Maia Sandu and discuss and vote on Moldova’s resilience in the face of Russian hybrid threats.
Pre-session press briefing. Parliament’s Press Service will hold a press briefing with the political group spokespersons at 11.00 on Friday (Anna Politkovskaya room, press centre, Brussels).
President’s diary. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will host an informal breakfast with EU member state permanent representatives on Monday. On Wednesday, President Metsola will preside over Parliament’s Conference of Presidents. From Thursday to Saturday, the President will be in Ottawa, Canada, to participate in the G7 Speakers’ meeting, at which she will deliver a speech at the inaugural session of the meeting on Friday.
