Vice-President Ansip: Telecoms are the backbone of the Digital Single Market

Europe cannot build a Digital Single Market without strong common telecommunications rules. This is the message that Vice-President Andrus Ansip, in charge of the Digital Single Market, will give later today. Commenting on proposals for a Telecom Single Market, he will say: “I am happy to see that negotiations between EU Member States and the European Parliament have started. But I have to say that their starting point is far less than I would have liked. The Commission’s position is clear. We need to abolish roaming charges as soon as possible. We need strong net neutrality rules and more coordination on spectrum“. This message comes before an important debate that the Commission will have tomorrow on the Digital Single Market Strategy.
