Vice-President Jourová and Vice-President Schinas set out the way forward at the second Working Group meeting on anti-Semitism in Brussels

Yesterday, President von der Leyen gave a speech at the High-Level event “After Halle: from words to action against anti-Semitism” in Brussels. The President said: “Anti-Semitism is a poison for our community. And it is up to all to fight it, to prevent it and to eradicate it. We must all do our part. The Jewish community is not alone. We will lead this fight together.”The rising challenge of anti-Semitism needs a strong response from the European Union. The President has entrusted Vice-President Schinas to lead the Commission’s work on the fight against anti-Semitism. He will be supported by a new dedicated team, who will work with the coordinator for combatting anti-Semitism and for fostering Jewish life. Today, Vice-President Jourová and Vice-President Schinas are speaking at the second Working Group meeting on anti-Semitism organised by the European Commission. The one-day event takes place in Brussels and has a specific focus on education about Jewish life, anti-Semitism and the Holocaust. The European Commission initiated this working group in response to the unanimous adoption by EU Member States of the Council Declaration on strategies to fight against anti-Semitism and protect Jewish communities and institutions in Europe in December 2018. The ultimate goal of this working group is to support Member States in drafting national action plans on combating anti-Semitism in close cooperation with the national Jewish communities.
