Vice-President Šefčovič and Commissioner Moedas at the Energy Innovation Conference in Bratislava

Tomorrow Thursday, Vice-President for the Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič and Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas will be in Bratislava to participate at the Central European Energy Conference. They will discuss with participants the opportunities to boost investment, jobs, growth, research and innovation as part of the Energy Union. The Commissioners will have the opportunity to present the new strategy “Accelerating Clean-Energy Innovation” adopted by the European Commission on 30 November. “2016 is the year of delivery of the Energy Union. One day after presenting the Energy Union Package – Clean energy for all Europeans, we focus on the Research and Innovation dimension of the Energy Union“, said Vice-President Šefčovič ahead of the visit. “Energy is fundamental to our economy, to our environment and to our way of life. We need to take the right decisions how we produce, use and invest in energy in the future to drive Europe’s transition to a low-carbon economy. For this change to happen our policy is clear:  we need a new era of disruptive innovation,” complemented Commissioner Moedas. The European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan), which will be discussed at the conference aims to accelerate the development and deployment of low-carbon technologies. It seeks to improve new technologies and bring down costs by co-ordinating research and helping to finance projects.
