Let’s not forget multilateral institutions

The roadmap for middle-power action that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Finnish President Alexander Stubb recently laid out calls for countries that share interests to create ad hoc coalitions. But to be effective, these coalitions must work as much as possible within existing multilateral institutions.

SANGUINETTO, ITALY—Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Finnish President Alexander Stubb recently laid out a roadmap for middle-power action in The Economist, having recognized the importance of “actively taking on the world as it is, not passively waiting for a world we wish to be.”
