Committee and political group meetings, Brussels

Fit for 55/ReFuelEU Aviation. The Transport Committee will vote on new rules to increase the use of sustainable aviation fuels, such as synthetic fuel, used cooking oil or even hydrogen, by aircraft operators and EU airports, in order to cut emissions from aviation and ensure Europe becomes climate neutral by 2050 (Monday).


War in Ukraine/EU enlargement.
 MEPs and members of parliaments from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine will debate the future of EU enlargement in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This inter-parliamentary committee meeting is organised by the Foreign Affairs Committee (Monday).


Migration situation in Greece.
 MEPs on the Civil Liberties Committee will debate how Greece is currently coping with migration with Greek Migration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitarachi (Monday).


Plenary preparations.
 Political groups will prepare for the 4-7 July plenary session, where MEPs will debate and vote on taxonomy and the Commission’s plan to include gas and nuclear activities, and on the Digital Markets and Digital Services Acts, which aim to fight the spread of illegal content online, give users more choice, protect their fundamental rights and ensure fair competition. MEPs will also debate the Russian government’s relations with European parties on the extreme right and left, assess the outcome of the 23-24 June EU summit, comment on the priorities of the Czech Presidency of the Council and hold a “This is Europe” debate with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.


President’s diary.
 EP President Roberta Metsola will give an address at the Brussels Forum of the German Marshall Fund event on “Winning the Strategic Future—In the Spirit of the Marshall Plan”, on Monday. On Tuesday, the President will be in Paris to deliver a keynote address at the Jacques Delors conference “La promesse d’Europe”. On Wednesday, she will attend the “Olive Tree of Democracy” event, with Committee of the Regions President Apostolos Tzitzikostas. President Metsola will meet New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Thursday, and open the European Parliament’s Innovation Day on Friday.
