Commissioner Ferreira engages in online dialogue with European youth on the future of European cooperation
©European Union, 2019, Source: EC - Audiovisual ServiceTomorrow, 23 June, Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, will engage in an online dialogue with young people all over Europe, to seek their views on the future of European cooperation. In light of this year’s 30 anniversary of Interreg and taking advantage of the new upcoming 2021-2027 EU programming period, young people will be able to share their views on how to improve cooperation policy and what their role should be in the Interreg policy-making process. The ideas collected during this discussion will be displayed in the “Manifesto for Young People by Young People to Shape the European Cooperation Policy” which will be presented to high-level decision makers at the youth session of the Interreg Annual Event on 15 October 2020. Ahead of the event, Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, said: “The involvement of young people in the Interreg policy-making is a true example of a well-working and effective democracy. This event and the Manifesto show that the EU is open to listen to citizens, already at a young age, and it is ready to examine their needs and take their wishes on board. The aim of cohesion policy, and in this case of Interreg, is to deliver tangible results that meet people’s expectations for their best possible quality of life.” ‘Youth’, ‘green’ and ‘neighbours’ are the three main topics of the Interreg 30-year celebrative campaign taking place during the whole 2020 on social media and with virtual and physical events and exhibitions. The choice for the ‘youth’ theme is to highlight the role of Interreg in this specific field and to engage the younger generations when designing the future of European cooperation programmes.
