EU leaders at the 70th UN General Assembly and the Sustainable Development Summit

This year marks the opening of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA). Starting on Friday morning, 25 September, many world leaders are expected to address the UN Sustainable Development Summit (25-27 September) as well as take part in the general debate of the UNGA (28 September – 6 October). European Union leaders will have a strong presence at events throughout the week. The European Commission will be represented by First Vice-President, Frans Timmermans who will speak on behalf of the EU on Sunday 27 September, on the occasion of the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda at the UN Sustainable Development Summit. High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini will also participate in high-level meetings at the UN and around New York City, as will Commission Vice-President Kristalina Georgieva (Budget & Human Resources) and Commissioners Günther Oettinger (Digital Economy & Society); Johannes Hahn (European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations); Neven Mimica (International Cooperation & Development); Miguel Arias Cañete (Climate Action & Energy); Dimitris Avramopoulos (Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship) and Christos Stylianides (Humanitarian Aid & Crisis Management).
