Justice and Home Affairs Council, 13-14 October 2022
Ministers of justice will be updated on the fight against impunity in Ukraine. They will exchange views on judicial training and its impact on access to justice, as well as on upholding fundamental rights in times of crises. Ministers will assess progress on the draft environmental crime directive and take stock of the work of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
EU home affairs ministers will exchange views on the overall state of the Schengen area, with a particular focus on the management of external borders. They will discuss the situation of refugees in the EU, as well as the internal security implications in the context of the war in Ukraine. The Presidency will provide a state of play on the files regarding asylum and migration. Over lunch, ministers will discuss recent evolutions in the Western Balkans migratory route.
Foreign Affairs Council, 17 October 2022
The Foreign Affairs Council will discuss the Russian aggression against Ukraine and China.
Agriculture and Fisheries Council, 17-18 October 2022
EU Agriculture Ministers will meet in Luxembourg on 17 and 18 October to reach a political agreement on fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea for 2023. Ministers will also discuss the current market situation in light of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as exchange views on trade-related agricultural issues. They will additionally provide guidance to the Commission ahead of the annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).
General Affairs Council, 18 October 2022
Ministers will focus on preparations for the October European Council, EU electoral law, follow-up to the Conference on the Future of Europe and rule of law in Poland.
European Council, 20-21 October 2022
EU leaders will meet in Brussels to discuss Ukraine, energy, economic issues and external relations. On Ukraine, they will revert to Russia’s war of aggression and its consequences. The situation of energy prices, security of supply, market optimisation and demand reduction will be main focal points during the discussion on energy; leaders will decide as well on any further actions. The European Council will also address the economic situation and EU-Asia relations, including a strategic discussion on China.
