President Juncker chairs weekly meeting of the College of Commissioners in Strasbourg

Today the College is meeting in Strasbourg. First Vice-President Timmermans will present the 2017 Commission Work Programme, which the College is expected to adopt. Also on the agenda is the Commission’s Recommendation on temporary border controls in Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. There will be two press conferences taking place in Strasbourg, at 16:30 with First Vice-President Timmermans on the 2017 Work Programme, and at 17:00 with Commissioner Avramopoulos on temporary border controls. Press material will be online and available at the start of the two press conferences which will be live streamed via EbS. The College will also discuss a number of initiatives to be presented on Wednesday: They will discuss the Commission’s proposal for a Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base, and two further proposals that aim to improve the current system for dispute resolution on double taxation in the EU and to bolster existing anti-abuse rules. Taken together, these measures will create a simple and pro-business tax environment. The College will also endorse the Space Strategy for Europe, which ensures that EU space programmes put the focus on improving our daily lives and boosting Europe’s competitiveness. There will be two press conferences on these initiatives in Brussels on Wednesday, the first by Commissioner Moscovici at 11:00, and the second by Vice-President Šefčovič and Commissioner Bieńkowska at 12:00.
