Today and tomorrow, EU Heads of State or Government are meeting for the European Council, followed by a Euro Summit in an inclusive format and an EU27 meeting on the Article 50 negotiations.

Ahead of the European Council, President Juncker will meet the Baltic States’ leaders and the Prime Minister of Poland for the signature of the Roadmap on the synchronisation of the Baltic States’ electricity networks with the Continental European Network. To prepare the debate, President Juncker convened on Sunday, 24 June an informal working meeting on migration and asylum issues attended by 16 Member States. The Commission is proposing a comprehensive strategy on migration addressing both the external and internal dimensions of migration.Europe needs a collective approach across the board as no Member State should be left alone. On Friday, the EU27 leaders will take stock of progress on the Article 50 negotiations with the United Kingdom. They will be debriefed by President Juncker and by the Commission’s Chief Brexit Negotiator Michel Barnier. The agenda of the day will be completed by an inclusive Euro Summit where the leaders of both eurozone and non-eurozone countries will discuss and provide guidance on deepening the Economic and Monetary Union. The Commission has published three notes – on migration, the Multiannual Financial Framework and the Economic and Monetary Union, which form the basis of its contribution to discussions today and tomorrow.
