This morning in Tallinn, President Ursula von der Leyen met the Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kallas, and the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, to mark Estonia’s Independence Day and the first year since Russia started its unprovoked and illegal war against Ukraine.

During the joint press conference held after the meeting, President von der Leyen reiterated once more the EU’s unwavering commitment to support Ukraine. The President said: “Ukraine will prevail because Ukrainians will neither flinch nor step back. And Ukraine will prevail because Europe and its partners and allies will stand firm.”

The President took stock of the measures that the EU has taken to support Ukraine and make Russia pay for its atrocities. She emphasised that we must keep giving Ukraine the means to defend itself.
