President von der Leyen and the College in Sweden for the inauguration of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU

President Ursula von der Leyen and the College of Commissioners are travelling to Sweden today and tomorrow to participate in the inauguration of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. To start the visit this afternoon, the President and the College will travel to Jukkasjärvi, where they will be welcomed by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. They will attend a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister.

Tomorrow morning, President von der Leyen and the College of Commissioners will go to the Esrange Space Center, near Kiruna, to take part in the inauguration of the first spaceport for satellite launches on EU mainland. The President and Prime Minister Kristersson will deliver a short speech after the event, at +/-10:30 CET, which you can follow live on EbS.

Later, the President and the College of Commissioners will have a working lunch in the Aurora Cultural Hall with the Prime Minister and members of the Swedish Government, on the priorities of the Swedish Presidency. They will notably discuss competitiveness, the climate and energy transition, democratic values and Rule of Law, and security. The College’s visit will end with a presentation with key actors of the mining, battery, steel, car and truck, and metal industries, entitled ‘The Green Industrial Revolution of the North’.

President von der Leyen will then have a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Kristersson, followed by a joint press conference at +/-16:10 CET, which you can follow live on EbS.
